Arafat Ashwad Islam, born on November 15, 1984, in Dhaka, is a Bangladeshi politician and entrepreneur. He serves as the Managing Director of Acorp Limited and the Country Managing Director of Orkin Bangladesh, a franchise of the well-known American pest management company, Orkin.
In the twelfth parliamentary elections, Arafat Ashwad Islam ran as an independent candidate for the Dhaka-17 constituency. He is actively involved in several social and nonprofit organizations. He was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Gulshan Society for the terms 2022-2024 and 2024-2026, and he also serves as the convenor of the society's civic services and utilities committee. Moreover, he is the board secretary of the Anu Memorial Foundation, a nonprofit charitable organization established in honor of his late uncle, A M Nurul Islam Anu, who was the private secretary to former Prime Minister Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Arafat Ashwad Islam has received several accolades for his efforts in philanthropy. He was honored with the Mahatma Gandhi International Peace Award 2023 by the India Bangladesh Cultural Council in Kolkata, West Bengal, for his exceptional contributions to social services. Additionally, he received the Desher Daak Personality Award 2023 from the Desher Daak weekly newspaper, recognizing his significant impact in the fields of business and social service.
